Adult Learn to Swim

Be part of the largest U.S. Masters ALTS program in the nation.

Adult Learn to Swim is for You

If you're one of the approximately one-third of adults in the United States who never learned to swim, we're here to help. Temescal Aquatic Masters (TEME) is the largest USMS Adult Learn to Swim (ALTS) program in the country and has certified coaches ready to teach you how to swim and be water safe.

ALTS is perfect if you:

  • Never learned how to swim

  • Want to feel at ease getting into the pool or being around water

  • Want to feel comfortable putting your face into the water

  • Want to feel confident jumping into or swimming in the deep end

  • Want to learn to float on your stomach or back

ALTS might not be for you if:

  • You can swim the length of a swimming pool (even if you are slow)

  • You know how to swim one or more strokes

  • You're ok jumping into the deep end of  a  swimming pool

How ALTS Works

The ALTS program is four 50-minute sessions on Sundays at Temescal Pool (371 45th St, Oakland, CA) from Sept 14–Oct 5, 2025, 3–5 p.m.

Each swimmer is paired with an experienced swim instructor who works with you one-on-one. You'll learn swimming basics with the goal of being water safe by the end of the session.  Since everyone moves at their own pace, your instructor will adjust the program to ensure you get the best possible experience.

Registration is $30 (+ fees) per swimmer. It includes swim goggles and a swim cap.
