Fundraising and Outreach
Temescal Aquatic Masters is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting physical fitness, personal achievement, and camaraderie through recreational and competitive swimming.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
When employed coaches are not available for workout coverage, one of our volunteer coaches may step in for a short-term or longer-term basis. Volunteer coaches hold current lifeguard certification on file with our board, and they have been trained to follow TEME workout protocols and facility operations guidelines set forth by the City of Oakland.
In addition to the strength and support of its membership, our nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization relies on an established board of directors that oversees its governance, employment of coaches, and day-to-day operations of the team. We encourage members to join our monthly board meetings, find ways to support special events through committee work, and learn more about joining the board.
• Social Committee
The Social Committee plans and hosts numerous informal gatherings at the pool throughout the year. Notable events include coffee
meetups for Coach Appreciation Week and our Post-Holiday Party. We are also charged with keeping the team's social media current and engaging.
• Fundraising and Outreach Committee
TEME is in the fortunate position to help raise funds for other organizations that are identified by the board and/or members of the team. TEME is a
proud supporter of Oakland’s Adult Learn-to-Swim program, which we hold at Temescal Pool twice a year. Our swimmers help new swimmers from
our community who attend weekend clinics to learn the basics of swimming.Temescal Aquatic Masters (TEME) is the largest USMS Adult Learn to Swim (ALTS) program in the country and has certified coaches ready to teach you how to swim and be water safe.
Team Oakland is coached by Temescal Masters swimmers. We practice in Oakland and compete in Northern California Special Olympics swim meets March through June, annually. There are about 50 swimmers who reflect the incredible rich diversity of Oakland and Alameda county. If you like the ideas of inclusivity and the joy of swimming being accessible to all, please join us as a volunteer. Contact soswimoakland@gmail.com for more information. 😀
Everyone on the team is welcomed and encouraged to volunteer. If you're interested in volunteering, please check back here or chat with the coaches, volunteer coordinators, or teammates to find out how to participate.
