About Us
We're passionate about swimming and empower you to become a stronger swimmer.

Temescal Aquatic Masters
USMS: TEME
We are a United States Masters Swimming (USMS) team that provides organized workouts and clinics for adults age 18 and older. Workouts are open to swimmers of all kinds — fitness, triathlete, competitive, and non-competitive — who are dedicated to improving their fitness through swimming.
There are about 200 registered swimmers on the team. And more than a dozen scheduled workouts each week. That makes us one of the largest, most active, and most diverse masters swim teams in California.
Our home pool is the Temescal Pool, 371 45th Street, Oakland. It's a 33.3 yard/100-foot, six lane outdoor pool that's part of the Oakland Parks and Recreation Aquatics system.

Temescal Aquatic Masters Coaches

The Board of Directors
The team is managed by dedicated volunteers who apply their skills and experience to running the team.
That means providing the best experience for swimmers, maintaining an excellent relationship with Oakland Parks and Recreation Aquatics, and ensuring fiscal viability.

Naji Ali has been coaching and teaching swimming for over 14 years. He is a certified Total Immersion Swim instructor and an accomplished open water marathon swimmer.
His passion for swimming centers around his desire to teach Black and Brown children and adults how to swim regardless of ability to pay.
He is the proud head coach of the Oakland Tech high school swim team and actively teaches and coaches in the Oakland Parks and Rec summer league. Naji's inspiration for swimming is a result of his long-term relationship with his swimming mentor - Malachi Cunningham - one of the first African Americans to coach at the NCAA level.
